Even with the weather starting to cool down now that we’ve entered Autumn, there’s still plenty to get up to in Perth, including visiting some of our amazing West Coast beaches! Here’s 8 of our favourite Perth beaches – and why they make Perth such an amazing city to live in!
- Scarborough Beach
Scarborough Beach recently underwent a $30 million revitalisation to now include a geo-thermally heated open-air public pool and recreation facility, kid’s play area, skate park, climbing wall and a vast array of drinking and dining options. The beach itself boasts regular swell, great surf, and long stretches of white sand. Surf Life Savers are regularly on patrol at Scarborough Beach, making it the perfect family friendly spot. There is also so much more to do than swim at Scarborough Beach… Check out what’s on in Scarborough here.
Scarborough Beach is about a 20 minute drive north west of Perth with regular buses running from the city.
- City Beach
City Beach is the closest beach to Perth’s city centre. The big stretches of sand and shaded grass areas make it the perfect spot for a late afternoon swim, followed by a sunset picnic.
If you prefer to dine out, City Beach is surrounded by fantastic restaurants, pubs, and cafes to cater to any occasion.Visit Odyssea or Hamptons for classy meet-ups overlooking the ocean, or take the family down for a casual meal on the beach at Clancys. The choice is yours!
- Port Beach
Port Beach is a great beach for ocean swimmers, Stand Up Paddle boarders, and families with young kids due to the calm waters. The long, mostly uninterrupted lengths of white sand all the way up to South Cottesloe also make it a great spot for beach walkers and joggers.
- Trigg Beach
Trigg is a beautiful beach and definitely comes out on top for being a great Perth spot for surfing. Whilst the water can get a little rough for inexperienced swimmers, the beach is perfect for relaxing on the sand, and then heading up to popular dining spots Canteen or Island Market.
With a view spanning the horizon; this section of the coast line is one of the most popular with coastal riders, joggers and walkers; and it is usually busy from early morning to early evening.
- Mettams Pool
Heading to the North, Mettams Pool is one of the most popular beaches off the stretch of the stunning West Coast Drive. Best visited in the morning, the accessible spot offers incredible snorkelling and peaceful swims. It’s also a nice protected spot to swim with young children. Coffee isn’t far away with Yelo café just down the road.
- Cottesloe Beach
Cottesloe stands alongside Scarborough beach for its popularity, and it isn’t hard to see why. Cott’s soft white sand, calm clear blue waters, grassed terraces and tall shady pines make the beach stand out as the perfect spot for families, tourists, locals and surfers alike. This part of the coast also boasts a long stretch of cafes, bars, restaurants and ice-cream spots.

- Leighton Beach
Leighton Beach’s shallow calm waters paired with soft white sands make for the perfect swim spot. Especially for those wanting to take a dip with their furry friends. Choose to set up for a long beach day with umbrellas, food, drinks and lots of sunscreen, or take a quick dip and then stop at nearby café Bib & Tucker for a meal with stunning coastal views.
- Bathers Beach
Bathers Beach is the first sandy spot in Australia to be granted a liquor licence. Bathers Beach House is a relaxed café-style venue with deckchairs and sun umbrellas set up along the sand. The beach has a secluded, local feel, characterised by soft sand and calm small waves. Bathers is also perfectly nestled between cultural and historical sites, meaning endless hours of exploring are on offer.
